George McLaine has over 40 years of experience in the transportation business. He started his career as a truck driver in his family's business, moving in 1974 to Canada Safeway Ltd. where he spent the next 33 years. At Safeway, George served 18 years as Transportation Manager for southern Alberta, Canada, progressing to Transportation Manager for the entire Alberta division. Whilst there he was in charge of trucking operations in both Calgary and Edmonton, and worked as a lobbyist to the Alberta government. During his time at Safeway George was awarded the President's Exceptional Achievement Award on three occasions, recognising employees who make significant contributions to company operations which are above and beyond day-to-day job requirements. George was also a member of the Alberta Motor Transport Association from 1985 to 2007, where he served on various committees, including the Greenhouse Gas Committee and Long Combination Vehicle Committee.
